Making Tax Digital for ITSA

Quarterly Tax Reporting Help for the Self-Employed in Coventry, Rugby, Kenilworth & Leamington Spa

From April 2026, HMRC changed how some self-employed people and landlords report their income. If you earn over £50,000 a year, you’re now required to send HMRC an update every quarter, using approved accounting software, instead of filing once a year.

This is called Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA). More people will be brought into it over the next couple of years:

  • From April 2026: anyone earning over £50,000
  • From April 2027: anyone earning over £30,000
  • From April 2028: anyone earning over £20,000

If any of these apply to you, don’t panic. I’m a local, AAT-registered bookkeeper based in Warwickshire, and I help self-employed people across Coventry, Rugby, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa get set up properly, without the jargon.

Why Work With Me

  • AAT registered, so you know you’re working with someone qualified and bound by a professional code of conduct
  • Xero Level 1 certified, meaning I’m trained to the standard Xero itself sets for advisors
  • Experienced with QuickBooks too, so I can work with whatever software suits your business
  • I explain everything in plain English. No jargon, no assumptions that you already know how bookkeeping works
  • I work alongside your accountant where you have one, so nothing falls through the cracks

What I Offer

Software Setup: I’ll get you set up on HMRC-approved accounting software: Xero, QuickBooks, or another platform that fits your business. If you’re moving off spreadsheets or starting completely from scratch, I’ll handle the switch so nothing gets lost.

Personalised Training: Not a numbers person? That’s fine; most of my clients aren’t. I’ll teach you the software step by step, at your pace, until you’re confident using it yourself.

Ongoing Support: As your business grows, I’m on hand to help with questions, sort out issues, and keep your books ready for each quarterly submission.

Full Bookkeeping or Just an Overview: Some clients want me to run their books in full. Others want someone to check everything’s in order a few times a year. Both are fine; tell me what level of support suits you.

No computer yet? No problem. I can help you choose the right one for your business, set it up, and get your accounting software installed and ready to go.

Why Making Tax Digital Matters

This is part of HMRC’s move to a fully digital tax system. Getting set up properly now means:

  • Avoiding penalty points and fines for late or missed quarterly updates
  • Always knowing where your business stands financially, not just once a year at tax time
  • One less thing to worry about when deadlines roll around

Serving Coventry, Rugby, Kenilworth & Leamington Spa

I work with self-employed people and small business owners across the local area:

  • Rugby: bookkeeping, software setup and MTD preparation
  • Kenilworth: full bookkeeping through to light-touch account reviews
  • Leamington Spa: help getting ready for quarterly HMRC submissions

Not in one of these areas? Get in touch anyway; most of my work is done remotely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to worry about MTD for ITSA right now? If you’re self-employed or your property income was over £50,000 in the 2024/25 tax year, yes, you’re already in scope from April 2026. If you’re under that, you have time, but it’s worth setting up your software early rather than rushing later.

What software do I need? Any HMRC-recognised software will do. I work mainly with Xero and QuickBooks, and I’m Xero Level 1 certified, so I can set either up for you and make sure it’s ready for quarterly submissions.

I’ve never used accounting software. Can you still help? Yes, that’s exactly who this service is for. I’ll walk you through everything in plain English and make sure you’re comfortable before I step back.

Will you work alongside my existing accountant? Yes. I handle the day-to-day bookkeeping and software side; your accountant handles the tax advice and annual return. We work well together.
